Ezekiel 40–48

Ezekiel 40–48 contains the prophet’s vision of the new Temple and the new land. The section is challenging for translators. Some architectural details are poorly understood, and there are a number of other problems as well. The material that is offered here should help to deal with some of these difficulties.

In the first file, “Ezekiel's Temple – Structures & Measurements”, I compile the data from the various chapters. It is presented in a table, ordered by buildings, and with short remarks on crucial issues.

In the second file, “Ezekiel's Movements in Ezek.  42-44”, I discuss where Ezekiel finds himself in 43:1 and 44:1. This matters mainly for our own understanding. I also comment on the phrase דֶּרֶךְ שַׁעַר derek ša‛ar,  and on the movements of the prince regarding the vestibules. These issues matter for the translation itself.

The third document, “Dangerous Holiness” is a working manuscript on the sentence “Whatever touches X shall be holy.” It first appears in the Pentateuch, but Ezekiel refers to the underlying concept twice (44:19; 46:20).

In the forth file, “Ezek. 40–48 – Various Exegetical Issues”, I offer clarifications on a selection of other topics.
